Today we watched humpback whales eagerly lunge feeding and diving for bait fish in the Juan de Fuca Strait. They are busy trying to pack on the pounds before their long migrations to Mexico and Hawaii. October is also a fantastic time to view migratory birds. Hundreds of turkey vultures were seen kettling near Sooke, waiting for warm thermal winds to take them south. We then visited Race Rocks Ecological Reserve where we saw harbour seals, California sea lions, Steller sea lions, and elephant seals.
