Summary:

The desk staff runs the daily operations of our office at Fisherman’s Wharf.
Duties include selling tours, opening/closing office, checking in guests, taking reservations, and working effectively with boat Captains, Naturalists and other staff members to assure smooth running tours and departures. The desk staff’s focus is on selling our educational and thrilling tours. This person must be dynamic, well spoken, outgoing, enjoy people, be great at sales and enjoy our team environment.

Major Job Duties:

  1. *FOCUS is speaking with, and making contact with all persons walking by the office on the dock.  Stop and drop what you are doing!
  2. Be passionate about whales and conservation
  3. Have local knowledge of wildlife
  4. Taking guest reservations accurately and completely
  5. Checking people in for tours and assist with distributing foul weather gear
  6. Communicate effectively with other staff to assure smooth running tours and happy, satisfied guest experiences
  7. Jump in and assist other staff members when needed
  8. Assist with online reservations and answering email inquiries.
  9. Ensure office and surrounding dock space are kept clean and tidy
  10. Answering questions, overcoming objections and closing sales via phones and walk-by traffic
  11. Safely and efficiently pick up/drop off hotel passengers in company van, when needed
  12. Close and settle electronic payments and balance day-end cash outs

  Knowledge and Skills:

  1. Strong communication skills
  2. Good work ethic, always keep busy.

  4. Sales experience including operation of cash float and credit card machine
  5. Good customer service mentality
  6. Detail oriented
  7. Dynamic personality, outgoing, and enjoys working with others
  8. Follow up and complete all undertakings
  9. Responsible, mature, happy, safety conscious, outdoor type
  10. No personal cell phone use or texting, or personal social media (facebook) while on-the-clock unless it relates to EWT business.
  11. Available Saturdays, Sundays, evenings and holidays
  12. Basic knowledge of marine wildlife.
  13. Ability to speak other languages a bonus

Abilities:

  1. Physically fit and able to work a full day on their feet
  2. Must work effectively with others in a team environment
  3. Customer Service background

Must have a valid BC Driver’s Licence (or equivalent)

Requirements:

  1. Must adhere to company dress code
  2. Must have current first aid and CPR certification (optional)
  3. Subject to pre-employment and/or random drug testing
  4. Must have personal land line and/or cell phone with voice mail and respond to call-in opportunities
