Marine Technician and Mechanic

Job Summary

The Marine Technician and Mechanic, under the direction of the Owners, will primarily be responsible to provide support to our boat, marine teams. They will service and maintain our fleet: preventative, regular scheduled maintenance, offer emergency servicing and repairs as needed and ensure that our boats can get off the docks with minimal to no downtime during our peak season.  Working in a busy, dynamic seasonal industry the Marine Technician and Mechanic will interact directly with employees, management and the public at large while supporting the general day to day operations of a fast paced customer service oriented work environment.

  2. Your primary location of work will be at our (existing office) to be replaced by a brand new custom built floating office at Victoria’s historic community of Fisherman’s Wharf which will be completed sometime in April 2024.  The new office affords many locations and versatile spaces to work in.  Some work may occur remotely from home, this is to be discussed.

Salary:

  1. to be negotiated ($35-$50/hr) based upon proven previous experience (3 month probation period)

Team:

  1. 40 – 50 employees (seasonal contracts and year round contracts for team members)
  2. Peak season we are 45-50 team members
  3. Off season we are up to 30

Location:

  1. various locations with majority of work to be done at Fisherman’s Wharf, Ogden Point and Canoe Cove Marina. We have storage located @ Ogden Point and a private residence in the Langford area.

Schedule:

  1. Full time seasonal with flexible hours throughout the fall, winter, spring seasons. More details can be discussed in person regarding expectations. Approx. 1000-1400 hours per season. Affords the applicant the ability to work elsewhere, side jobs, etc. To be discussed in more detail in person.

What does this ideal team member look like?

  1. Journeyman/Certified Marine Mechanic.
  2. Marine Technician – Minimum 5+ years experience
  3. Strong diagnostic and troubleshooting skills.
  4. Preference given to applicants with Volvo & CAT Diesel inboard Suzuki Outboard engines:
    1. Volvo: D6’s, D11’s, D13’s
    2. CAT C-18’s
    3. Suzuki outboards DF350 – dual props
  5. General understanding of both aluminum and fibreglass hull construction is an asset.
  6. Professional attitude and strong work ethic.
  7. Some administrative skills a benefit: computer, google documents and sheets (willing to learn)
  8. Clear communication skills
  9. Can work under pressure and under a tight timeline due to unforeseen circumstances with a busy peak season schedule (June – September) – (On-call at times). More hours during peak season with light and flexible hours fall, winter, early spring
  10. Experience in inboard/outboard engine maintenance, service and repair.
  11. Self motivated and flexible team player; a willingness to learn and work well with others.
  12. Maintain high quality work standards.
  13. Mounting and rigging experience is an asset.
  14. Ability to complete tasks in a safe and timely manner.
  15. Good customer service skills.
  16. Marine knowledge is not required but would be a strong asset.
