PRESS RELEASE

Eagle Wing Tours partners with Cowichan Energy Alternatives Society

Eagle Wing Tours is proud to partner with Cowichan Energy Alternatives Society and the Regional District of Nanaimo (RDN) to offset our carbon emissions. Eagle Wing Tours is the only 100% carbon neutral whale-watching company in Victoria. All emissions, from marine fuel consumption to type of office paper used, are calculated by Synergy Enterprises, an independent third party. All carbon reports are publicly available for transparency, and to encourage other companies to follow suite.

We are happy to have found a worthwhile green initiative to invest in locally, with available 3rd-party verified compliance credits. For our 2015 fiscal year, 732 tonnes of CO2 emissions were retired.
“For this project, revenues from offsets are going back into our solid waste service. Our Landfill Gas Capture represents a significant investment in infrastructure for the region – amounting to about $4 million over the last decade. When it was originally built, it was envisioned that the RDN would be able to generate returns from the sale of offsets to recoup some of the costs of that system. This vision finally became reality when the RDN partnered with the [Community Carbon Marketplace] beginning in 2016. Because of that partnership, and the commitment of environmentally conscientious private businesses such as Eagle Wing Tours, we have earned revenues this year that will go back into supporting the project and its key objective of reducing GHG emissions.” (Chris Midgley, Manager, Water Services and Asset Management, Regional District of Nanaimo)

At Eagle Wing Tours, we continue to recreate what a sustainable ecotourism company should look like. As the first whale-watching company in Canada to become carbon neutral and join 1% for the Planet, we believe in giving back. This is just one way we are able to support local environmental initiatives.
