Decisions. Decisions. At this time of year, Eagle Wing Tours offers a range of tour time options for you to come and out with us and whale watch from Victoria—from 9 a.m. in the morning to as late as 7:30 p.m. in the evening in mid-summer.
How do you choose? What time of day is best? Daytime or sunset?
We have some tips to help you decide. But first, we stress that there’s no “best” time of day to go whale watching. Whales are out and about doing their thing day and night, so whether you go out in the morning, afternoon or evening you’ll always have a great chance of seeing whales and other marine wildlife.
Thanks to our vessel styles, which have a bigger range than many of our competitors, we guarantee whale sightings in the peak season, which in 2019 run until Oct. 31. With that guarantee in your back pocket, all you have to do is decide what time to go!

A day tour is the perfect option if you want:
A comprehensive tour with whales and more!
On our longer day tours—which are at least 3.5 hours, often longer—you get an insider look at the real west coast—the whales, other wildlife and scenic spots that make the Salish Sea so special.
Our staff are experts on whales, of course, but are more than happy to fill you in on local history, conservation issues and all the other creatures that call the Salish Sea home.
Be sure to keep your post-tour schedule flexible. Our company is well-known for extending tours as needed when whales are a further distance than expected, or we get a new report of nearby whales late in the tour. We don’t want you to miss anything. As long as your schedule is flexible, our captains can literally go the extra mile to make sure your whale watching tour is the best one ever.
Our day tours leave at regular intervals throughout the morning and afternoon. No matter what else you have planned that day, it’s easy to fit in a whale watching tour.

A sunset tour is the perfect option if you want to:
Travel straight to the whales!
At three hours, sunset tours are a bit shorter than our day tours. That makes them perfect if you don’t have a ton of time to invest.
By that time of day, we usually know where the whales are. So, in most cases we head straight to the whales, give you plenty of time to see them in action, then head back to the Inner Harbour with an awesome Salish Sea sunset guiding the way.
As always, our dedicated and knowledgeable (i.e. wildlife-obsessed) staff are your tour guides every step of the way!
Avoid the crowds
Fewer whale watching boats from other companies head out in the evening, so it’s often just us, the whales and the unbeatable backdrop of the Olympic Mountains, the San Juan Islands or the Canadian Gulf Islands!
There’s something magical about those lazy summer evenings, when we’re floating with the whales and listening to their breaths in the soothing evening light. Being in the company of these magnificent marine mammals in the evening always seems more peaceful after the hustle and bustle of a busy day. (Pssst, we call it whale therapy!)
Sunset tours are our most affordable option. That means you’ll have more cash to enjoy all of the other wonderful things Victoria has to offer.
Sunset tours on our open boats leave at 6 p.m. until Aug.15 and then 5:30 p.m. until Sept. 3. Sunset tours on Wild 4 Whales leave at 6:30 p.m. until Aug. 15 and then 6 p.m. until Aug.23. Sunset tours on 4 Ever Wild leave at 7:30 p.m. until July 30 and then 7:15 p.m. until Aug. 5. All departures are dependent on demand and weather.
